Project Background
Throughout Portree and Braes you will find a wide variety of paths and walks many with spectacular views, abundant wildlife and natural flora.
Along with other groups and agencies Portree & Braes Community Trust aim to improve, protect, preserve and increase the pathways around our community. To date, the Trust has coordinated the repair and restoration of the footpath at Camas a’ Mhòr Bheòil, the replacement of the woodland steps at Bayfield and the installation of picnic benches at various viewpoints around the area. The Trust also organise “Clean Up Clubs” which bring together residents to carry out litter picking, weeding, planting and any other tasks which help improve the pathways and public areas in Portree and Braes.
This work has been supported by a variety of grant funding and local donations. In October 2019, for exmaple, fifteen local people took part in the Ross’s Ramble Storr 2 Slig challenge – a sponsored walk from the Old Man of Storr to Sligachan Hotel, approximately 25 miles over challenging mixed terrain. The walk was a enormous success highlighting the boundary of the Portree and Braes area, raising over £1000 for the Light Up Portree Christmas Events fund and providing an opportunity for those taking part to explore remote parts of the Portree and Braes area.
Project Information
The Clean up Club is coordinated by volunteers on behalf of the Trust. Due to volunteer time restraints the club no longer runs on a monthly basis however if you would like some assistance to organise a Clean Up session in Portree and Braes please get in touch.
