Project Background
The Matheson Place Playpark sub-group formed in 2021 with a vision to create a brand-new accessible playpark facility in a derelict site at Matheson Place, Portree.
Local mums Tiffany Maberley, Sarah Nisbit and Fiona Stoddart formed a sub-group under the umbrella of The Portree & Braes Community Trust and with support from local people, business and organisations, an incredible £120,000 was raised in just over 12 months. On behalf of the Trust the subgroup secured a 20-year lease from The Highland Council for the land identified, the community was consulted on what play equipment they would like to see included in the development and playpark specialists Kompan were commissioned to install the new park. The playpark is now up and running and is enjoyed and valued by local families.
