Outdoor Activities Group

The Outdoor Activities Group formed in 2016 to develop facilities in the Portree and Braes area which would encourage children and young people to spend time being active in the outdoors.  To date they have been successful in raising funds to purchase and insure mobile skate ramp facilities which are now situated at the Red Pitch in Camanachd Sqaure in Portree. The cost of insuring this equipment is £2140 per year and the group work hard organising fundraising events each year. In 2019 the Easter Fun Day Fundraiser raised over £600.

The group are now also looking at creating a community woodland space in the centre of Portree and have secured a ten-year lease on the triangular plot of land adjacent to Tigh na Drochaid for this purpose. The trust aim to bring designers together with the community to improve access to the space. Inspired by nature - and using natural materials where possible - play features, signage and seating will be added to the woodland to create a new outdoor space for relaxation, recreation and outdoor learning.

The trust are delighted that this project has been chosen as one of the Coops Community Fund charitable projects this year. With support from Coop members the Outdoor Activity Group could potentially secure up to £20k to make their vision a reality.  Please vote now by clicking here. Thanks for your support.
